Police in Enugu State, southeast Nigeria, say the command has arrested 23 suspects alleged to be involved in the killings and destruction of public and private properties during the End SARS protest in the state.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman, while briefing reporters at the Command Headquarters, explained that the suspects were arrested in different parts of the state.
The police are accusing the suspects who are between the ages of 16 and 35 of being among the hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS peaceful protest and caused mayhem in the three council areas of Enugu East, Enugu North, and Enugu South of the state.
CP Abdulrahman also alleged that the suspects set police stations ablaze, destroyed government buildings, banks, attacked, and killed innocent citizens of the state.
Items said to have been recovered from the suspects include matchetes, various hand sets, and charms.
The CP assured that the command will not relent to ensure that peace returns to the state and urged residents to go about their normal businesses.
