At least one person has died and another 4 hospitalised after a coaster bus carrying yet- to-be ascertained number of passengers plunged into a river along Akaeze-Ishiagu Highway in Akaeze Development Centre, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The accident occurred Friday evening, when the driver of the bus lost control while trying to overtake a truck, thereby running into the Akaeze River that has increased water level following the steady rainfall.
Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident to AIT notes that it took the efforts of the police in the area to rescue 5 victims.

Odah fears that more victims could still be trapped inside the vehicle in the river, hence efforts at rescuing the vehicle have intensified.
She says the accident speaks volume of the need for motorists to always be cautious of their driving especially during these Ember months.
