About ten gunmen have been said to have attacked Batati community in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, and abducted five persons.

The gunmen, according to an eyewitness, arrived the community in a white vehicle, and observed night prayers with the locals in the community mosque.

Shortly after the prayers, the gunmen started shooting and scaring the people.

The eyewitness further said that valuables which included laptops and handsets were carted away.

The bandits after the operations were said to have escaped through the Gbangbangi community to Fazhi and Kutigi, Headquarters of Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.

The gunmen are said to be demanding a ransom of fifty million Naira.

Attempts for the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Wasiu Abiodun, on the attack were not successful.

Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers Yahaya Abubakar have summoned a meeting with District and Village Heads in the Emirate.

The meeting according to a palace source is not unconnected with the gunmen attack the Batati community, in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
