The delay by Governor Godwin Obaseki to constitute his cabinet and make political appointments 10 months after his inauguration for a second term in office is of great concern to Edo people particularly members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Governor Obaseki during his inaugural speech on November 12, 2020, after being sworn-in for a second term in office promised to constitute his cabinet in February 2021, 10 months down the line, the state is being governed by a three-man executive, the Governor, his Deputy and the Secretary to the State Government, only recently he made the appointment of the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff.

Many attributed the delay in setting up the state cabinet to the internal crisis within the Edo PDP over who controls the structure of the party since the arrival of the Governor to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Besides the governor’s inability to constitute his cabinet, he has also been unable to conduct the local government elections since the expiration of the tenure of previous chairmen and councilors on March 5, 2021.
Whenever it rains in Benin metropolis, major streets and roads are flooded. Most street lights and traffic lights are also not functioning. The Edo residents blamed the nonformation of the state cabinet and nonfunctioning local councils
In July 2021, Governor Obaseki inaugurated a 15-man committee to screen political nominees that will be appointed into his cabinet, the committee has since submitted their report to the governor.
With 10 months already gone into the second term of Governor Obaseki, the Edo people, particularly the politicians from the governor’s party, the PDP are anxiously waiting to know when the Governor will constitute his cabinet and set the motion for the conduct of local government elections so that those at the grassroots will feel the impact of good governance In the state
