Some political actors and observers of politics have tasked the newly inaugurated 10th National Assembly to endeavour to make laws and also adjust existing ones to revamp the country’s ailing economy as well as create avenues that would generate revenues to bring to an end the era of borrowing to fund governance in Nigeria.

Speaking to ait.live in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, they commended the smooth transition and inauguration, having the Senate President emerge from the South-South geopolitical zone.

A pensive mood it was across streets as Nigerians awaited the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

The beginning of a new era as the members-elect also took their oaths of office on the floor of the National Assembly chambers

Although the lawmakers are expected to work in tandem with the executive to deliver good governance to Nigerians, some political observers say lawmakers should be seen as united to maintain the independence of the legislature, irrespective of political divides

They want the 10th National Assembly to revisit some of the laws that were not favorable to the ordinary citizens, particularly as it concerns the South-South geopolitical zone which they described as the goose that lays the golden eggs.

With Senator Godswill Akpabio emerging as the first President of Senate from the South-South Region, they believed it had the capacity to change the fortunes of the country.
