A total of 119 inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger state, North-Central Nigeria after downpour that lasted for several hours on the night of Wednesday, April 24 wreaked havoc on the facility.
Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS, Adamu Duza who made this known in a statement said the rain destroyed part of the custodial facility, including its perimetre fence giving way to the escape of the inmates.
Duza also said the Service in conjunction with sister security agencies have so far recaptured 10 fleeing inmates and taken them into custody, while in hot chase to recapture the rest.
The public is further enjoined to look out for the fleeing inmates and report any suspicious movement to the nearest security agency.
