At least twelve people have been reported killed, thousands of others displaced, farmlands and other property worth millions of naira destroyed in rain induced flood in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The flood has rendered 1,926 people homeless in Gummi town alone, while 2, 689 households were affected in other communities within Gummi Local Government.
Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Mallam Mummuni who visited the flood scenes who addressed the affected persons and assured them of government’s commitment to provide succour.

The Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan, retired, wants the Zamfara State government to build a dam, to prevent the water in the river from overflowing and thereby preventing any impending flood in the area.
The Executive Secretary of the of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, (ZEMA), attributed the cause of the flood to climate change, the dumping of refuse on waterways, anthe lack of drainage in the affected communities.
