139 truckloads of COVID-19 food palliatives arrive Katsina State

Following the recent resurgence of banditry in the eight frontline local government areas of Katsina State coupled with the battle to contain the effect of COVID-19 disease, the Federal Government said it has donated 139 trucks loads of items which include relief materials and palliatives to the state.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouk, who led other Federal Government delegation on the donation to the state, said the items are from the national food reserves on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shortly before handing over the items to the Katsina State government, Farouk said they were in the state to commiserate with the government and people over the recent bandit’s attack which left hundreds of people dead, homeless, and properties worth thousands of Naira destroyed.

Concerned with the plight of the people, she said the Federal Government as part of its promise on the welfare of the people, decided to extend a hand of fellowship by bringing assistance to the affected ones hence, the donation of the relief materials in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

 The Minister further said as part of efforts to also cushion the hardship faced by the people due to the Coronavirus pandemic, 139 trucks of assorted grains have been donated as palliatives to be distributed to the poor and vulnerable across the state.

While urging the state government to ensure the judicious and equitable distribution of the palliatives to those in need, Deputy Governor, Mannir Yakubu, while thanking the Federal Government over the gesture, promised the Minister that justice shall be done in the regards.

Items donated by the Federal Government include both foods and non-food materials.
