Edo State Government says 16 percent of the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State are healthcare workers infected on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who spoke in Benin City against the backdrop of the rising cases of infected healthcare workers commends their resilience and sacrifice pledging the total support of his administration.
Edo State recorded its index case of COVID-19 in March 2020 and since then the number has significantly increased. Of particular interest to the State Government, are the healthcare workers who are on the frontline of the fight against the spread of the pandemic. Governor Obaseki particularly lauds their effort of providing quality healthcare service delivery even when some of them have come down with the disease.
Edo State has 3 molecular laboratories at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Stella Obasanjo Hospital and Edo Specialist Hospital. These are also the 3 treatment centres equipped to handle testing and care for positive patients.

Obaseki encourages residents to continue to practice physical distancing, wear face masks at all times and to wash hands frequently to reduce the spread and impact of the virus especially on health workers.
