Barely one year after a 33KVA electric cable electrocuted six-year-old, Vasty in Yelwa Tsakani in Bauchi State, a similar incident has occurred at Galambi in Bauchi Local Government Area, involving an 18 year-old lady, from the same 33KVA service line, leading to the amputation of her right hand.
This incident occurred when a 33KVA electric pole fell on her hand.
A team from the Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JEDC has visited the Galambi community.
The residents are mostly farmers with low incomes and without formal education.
Jamila Musa, 18 years old, was caught up in the unfortunate incident when returning from a nearby bush where went to fetch firewood for her mother.
According to Munbari, his sister, Jamila, was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where her right hand was amputated.
Aliyu Saidu, the new Regional Manager, Yelwa Office led the team to see the victim’s family and thereafter went to Abubakar Tafawa Teaching Hospital to see Jamila’s condition on behalf of the company.
He said, JEDC was worried and has shown concern for her health upon receiving the report.
He advises members of the public not to erect buildings closed to high-voltage cables, and to avoid going close to where an electricity pole has fallen.
He urged members of the public to quickly notify the authorities when they encounter similar occurrence to avoid harming people’s lives.
