Two male siblings, Gbolahan and Yinka Atolagbe aged seven and nine lost their lives when their neighbour’s fence collapsed on their apartment during the downpour in Lagos on Saturday which lasted several hours.
The building located at no. 25, Alao Street opposite Iyewa road Olainukan bustop, inward Ishawo, in Ikorodu area of Lagos state was cordoned off by the State Emergency Management Agency( LASEMA), after the incident.
According to the permanent secretary, LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu who issued a statement, the recovered bodies have been buried according to Muslim rites.
He explained that further investigation after the incident revealed that the said building fence was weakened by poor drainage, resulting in its collapse on the three-bedroom apartment located nearby which lead to the death of the two siblings.
Though he did not explain the next move to be taken on the matter even as many are of the opinion that the owner of the building whose fence collapsed and killed the children must face the consequences in court.
