A Coalition of Civil Society Groups on Monday staged a rally to the headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), calling on the party to zone its presidential ticket to the South in 2023.
The group led by its President, Bassey Etuk Williams took the same advocacy to Wadata House, headquarters of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.

The group marched on APC Secretariat at about 1pm, calling on the leadership of the party to ahead of its planned national convention in February be guided by an ” unwritten convention of power rotation between the North and the South since 1999.
The Civil Society Groups said the North under Buhari has had a fair share of power and that it will only be just if APC considered the South in 2023, adding that it will be in the interest of Nigeria’s unity to do so.
Earlier, the group took the similar advicacy to the door step of the main opposition, (PDP), appealing to it to do the right thing by looking towards the South for its presidential ticket in 2023.
Members of the Coalition groups were received by officials of the party who promised to forward their demand to the leadership of the party.
The issue of where power should reside has been quite knotty in Nigeria ahead of 2023 presidential election.
While some elements in the North want it to remain in the region after Buhari’s eight years reign, others in the South insist it is their turn.
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups said while it knows that power is not simply served; it is prepared to deploy its wide structures across the thirty-six states and the FCT to ensure that power migrates from the North to the South and in the process safeguard Nigeria’s unity.
