Over two thousand women are to benefit from a mentoring academy that will train and prepare the younger generation women to participate in elective and appointing positions ahead of 2023 election in Cross River State.
The academy which is facilitated by women in politics Forum,Abuja will head-hunt for qualify women with capacity that will join political parties,contest and win elections.
Speaking during a one day workshop to encourage young women in politics in Cross River State,the president of the forum,Ibere Ifendu,said with the mentoring academy in place ,the large scale discrimination among women seeking political office in Nigeria would be addressed.
On their part, Cross River State Commissioner for Women Affairs,Rita Ayim and member of the State House of Assembly,Itam Bang ,called on interested young women in politics to come out for mentoring as the state government is ready to provide the platform in collaboration with the Women in politics Forum Academy.
The group described as uncceptable, the appalling record of women’s representation in both national and local elective positions in Nigeria which the group is out to address.
