2023 Elections: NDLEA clears polling units, arrests over 100 suspects

The Katsina State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has deployed about 300 of its men to man different identified flashpoints across the 34 Local Government Areas of the State ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Commander of the agency, Mohammed Ibrahim who said this while speaking to AIT news on the level of preparations for the election, warned would-be trouble makers and drug abusers not to come close to polling units or be ruthlessly dealt with.

commander Muhammed Ibrahim said the deployment was carried out after identifying flash points across the state to ensure the elections are not only peaceful but, violent free.

He added that in the build up to the election, the command conducted sting operations on some criminal hideouts where over 100 drug abuse suspects, were arrested.

He identified drug abuse as one of the ways through which violence erupt at polling stations hence, the need to take drastic action by warning drug abusers to stay away from voting areas.

Commander Ibrahim said the NDLEA will synergize with other sister security agencies to ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
