Political Parties have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to extend the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards beyond the local government level to enable the eligible voters to participate in the upcoming general elections.

The political parties made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting with INEC officials on campaigns, ahead of the 2023 general election, held at INEC headquarters in Bauchi.

As the 2023 General Elections draw nearer, many eligible voters are yet to obtain their permanent voter’s card that will guarantee their participation in the upcoming elections.

According to the Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi State, Zakari Musa, over thirty-eight thousand PVCs remain uncollected and are still lying at the various INEC offices across the twenty Local Government Areas of the State.

He solicited the support of political parties in sensitizing the owners of the PVCs to collect them as the collection is still ongoing at the INEC local government offices across the State.

Some of the political parties called for the need for INEC to provide other means of distribution of the PVCs down to the rural areas, considering the economic hardship being faced by the people, to enable them to obtain their voter’s cards, in order not to disenfranchise their civic rights.

As campaigns for the 2023 General Elections commence, the electoral empire enjoined political parties to be guided by the Electoral Act as the law will not spare anyone found wanting.
