Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has warned that the state cannot be taken for granted in the political equation of Nigeria; pointing out that the state and him have the capacity to deliver election victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar or swing it elsewhere to another political party.

Wike said he will not run after any presidential candidate; sounding a note of warning that anyone who takes the state for granted in the build up to Presidential elections next year does so at his own peril.

Governor Wike who made the stated this at the flag-off of the construction of another flyover in the State capital said the people of Rivers State will be generous with their votes to only the candidate who loves and would protect the interest of the State.

According to Wike, only his local government has more votes than some states in the country, stressing that Rivers State has what it takes to decide the fortunes of any presidential candidate and can no longer be taken for granted.

Wike has been quite aggrieved over the turn of events in his PDP after his defeat at the party’s primaries in June. His grouse appeared to have heightened after the Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar overlooked him for the choice of running mate.

Relationship between the two has gone slightly sour since with the party’s frantic efforts at reconciliation yet to produce anything concrete from both camps.

Wike’s latest outburst on Thursday ahead of another planned meeting between him and Atiku expected to hold in Abuja on Friday may have cast another shadow of doubts on the chances of both me ironing out their conflicts of interest in good time.
