2023 Walk For Nature: Lagos Government, NCF, Advocate End To Single-use Plastic

The Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation have again raised concern over the risks posed by indiscriminate disposal of wastes, particularly plastics on the health of people and aquatic lives.

At the 15th edition of the annual “Walk for Nature” held in Lagos, the permanent secretary of, Ministry of environment and Water Resources.

Tajudeen Gaji advised residents to work towards reduction of single-use plastics while encouraging the use of reusable ones which are more eco-friendly.

For about three kilometers, these stakeholders comprising officials of the Lagos state govt, civil society groups, members of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation and students among others walked through the streets of Lagos in an annual event designed to create awareness on environmental issues and the need for responsible waste management.

This year, the focus is on finding solutions to plastic pollution which not only causes nuisance to the environment but also poses huge risk to aquatic lives.

The key message at this event is that It is the responsibility of every citizen to care for the environment, bring an end to single use plastics and encourage recycling.

Tagged “Walk for Nature” the programme put together by the Lagos state government in conjunction with the Nigerian conservation foundation took place simultaneously in Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Kosofe Local Government Areas as a strategy to decentralize the awareness campaign.
