Governor Bala Mohammed has assured the people of Bauchi State that the confidence reposed in him will not be taken for granted, as his administration will continue to faithfully justify, and fulfil the yearning and aspirations of the citizens, who gave him the second mandate to rule the state.
This was contained in his June 12 Democracy Day celebration message, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
Governor Mohammed said he is highly fulfilled to celebrate with the people of Bauchi State, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the return to democratic rule.
The Governor said the 25th Democracy Day celebration is a clear testimony of the fact that democratic governance has not only been firmly rooted, but has also come to stay in Nigeria, adding that there is no better alternative to democracy as a form of government, that gives the people the right to choose who governs them, and how they want to be governed.
As he marked one year in office since he was re-elected for the second term, Governor Mohammed assured the people of the state, that his administration will not relent in delivering people-oriented projects across the state, in appreciation and fulfillment of his campaign promises to the electorate of the state that re-elected him for another term.

“It is now one year since I was re-elected to serve the good people of Bauchi State for another four years. My re-election is a testimony to the confidence reposed in our administration by the good people of Bauchi State. And with all sense of humility, I want to state that during our first term, we performed creditably in various spheres of human endeavour, ranging from the construction of roads in both urban and rural areas, the construction and rehabilitation of schools and health facilities, water supply, the supply of agricultural inputs and machinery, and human capital development, through economic empowerment, among many other initiatives. I want to assure you that we will not only sustain the tempo during our second tenure, but will strive to improve upon our performances,” the statement added.
The Governor reiterated the commitment of his administration, to ensuring accountability and transparency in governance, and the resources at their disposal will continue to be judiciously used for the common good of the people of the state.
“We would continue to ensure value for money for the projects that would be executed. To this end, the resources we have would be deployed for maximum effect on the socio-economic development of the state. We cannot afford to embark on projects that have little or no effect on the well-being of the generality of the people of the state, as a way of addressing the effect of the current economic hardship being experienced in the country,” the statement reiterated.
As the country celebrates 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, the Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment and uphold the principles of democracy.
The Governor made the call in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, to celebrate this year’s Democracy Day.
He said the celebration of the Democracy Day, symbolises the victory of the collective will of the people over dictatorship and oppression, explaining that democracy has indeed attained a significant milestone, in the history of the country.
Bago observed that Democracy Day also reminds every patriotic Nigerian of the struggles, sacrifices, aspirations and resilience of Nigerians, who have continued to demonstrate their commitment to democracy, through their participation in elections, advocacy for human rights and defence of the rule of law.
He further said that democracy has facilitated greater transparency and accountability in governance, and a multi-party system, which has led to vibrant political competition, the expression of diverse viewpoints, and increased civic engagement, among others.
The Governor, expressed concern about how, despite all the achievements in democracy, Nigeria has continued to grapple with numerous challenges, such as electoral violence, insecurity, ethnic and religious intolerance, and economic hardship, which are hampering the growth and development of democracy in the country.
He tasked Nigerians to use this period to reflect on the progress made, and the challenges being faced, and deepen Democratic ideals, for a stronger democracy, pointing out that doing so would require a renewed commitment, and collective efforts from all and sundry.
Bago also advocated continuous electoral reforms, strengthening democratic institutions, promoting youth and women’s participation in politics, investing in education and youth empowerment, as well as addressing socio-economic challenges, that are crucial to the advancement of democracy in Nigeria.
And Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, says he is committed to the sustenance and consolidation of democratic ideals and values in line with the visions of the founding fathers of the State.
Governor Nwifuru in his Democracy Day message to the people, notes that Ebonyi State under his watch values “rules of law, freedom of speech and virile opposition which he said are beauties of Democracy, assuring of its continued consolidation as the nation’s democratic governance advances.
The message signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor explains that as citizens and residents celebrate the country’s democracy and the associated freedoms enjoyed, Governor Nwifuru is proud to say that the principles of democracy, equality, justice, and the rule of law are strictly respected in Ebonyi State under his watch.
“On this Democracy Day, we honour the struggles of our past leaders who fought tirelessly to establish and sustain our democratic institutions. I recognise the contributions of our citizens who have worked to build a more just and equitable society. And I can assure you their sacrifices in enthroning democratic governance will not be forgotten” Nwifuru Stated.
“However, I acknowledge the challenges we face and what is certain is that as a government, we recommit ourselves to addressing them.
“Let me assure you that we are committed to working assiduously to build a democracy that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people”.the statement noted.
In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma has congratulated Nigerians on the auspicious moment of the country’s 25 years of unbroken democratic experience, deducing that Nigeria is headed on the path of irreversible economic growth and greatness.
In his goodwill message to mark this year’s landmark Silver Jubilee Democracy Day, Governor Uzodimma who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum as well as the Chairman of South-East Governors’ Forum said despite the teething challenges that come with the practice of democracy, Nigerians have shown readiness to defend the system and make the best out of it.
Governor Uzodimma urged Nigerians to remain committed to the tenets of democracy, persevere in the face of global economic challenges and support the policies of the administration of President Tinubu that are geared towards ensuring that the citizenry reap full dividends of democracy.
To the good people of Imo State, the Governor reiterated his commitment to the reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery of the State’s infrastructure in such a manner that the people will be proud of their State and the government of the day.
