2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup : Nigeria’s Flamengos In Flying Start, Hits New Zealand 4-1

Flamengos of Nigeria

Nigeria’s U-17 team the Flamengos beat New Zealand 4-1 in their opening game of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup holding in Dominican Republic.

Shakirat Moshood opened the scoring after two minutes while Taiwo Adegoke doubled the lead 11 minutes on.

The Flamingos got a third in the 28th minute through Faridat Abdulwahab as the Nigerians led 3-0 at halftime

Captain Taiwo Afolabi scored in the 55th minute to make it 4-0 before Hannah Saxon hit the back of the net in the 60th minute in what was merely a consolatory goal for New Zealand.

Nigeria’s 4-1 win puts them top of their group with superior goals advantage over Ecuador who beat hosts Dominican Republic 2-0.

A potential Group A leadership decider awaits on Saturday, October 19th when the Flamengos clash with their Ecuadorian counterparts at the Cibao Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
