Organised Labour in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria has warned the State Government by issuing 24-hour ultimatum for immediately refund of what it describes as illegal monies deducted from the salaries of members. The deduction the labour leaders say are for health insurance which was done without the knowledge and consent of workers.
NLC State Chairman, Idrees Lafene who said this at the 2024 Workers Day celebration insists that such actions going forward will not be entertained. He warns that if government fails to refund the deducted money within 24 hours then it will face the wrath of labour unions.

Niger State Governor, Umar Bago who was represented by the Head of the Civil Service, Salisu Abubakar, hinted that the state government will immediately key into the new national minimum wage as soon as it is announced by the Federal Government for the betterment of the state workforce.
On the issue of the vexed issue of deductions for the health insurance scheme, Governor Bago promised that they have launched investigations to bring the perpetrators to book.
The Workers Day celebration in Niger State was low key and devoid of the usual parade and other activities at the Open Square in Minna. The programme was rather, held at the Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, as the workers mourn death of two of their former leaders including Yahaya Ndako and Muhammad Erena.
