Following the frightening statistics by the World Health Organisation, WHO that cancer cases will hit 35 million by 2050 across the globe, more health experts are calling for increased prevention and collaboration awareness to close the care gap in developing countries like Nigeria.
The experts while speaking in commemoration of the 2024 World Cancer Day in Lagos also challenged parents to always watch what their children eat to reduce their risk of exposure to the disease.
Going by the WHO projection, cases of Cancer will increase by 77% higher than it was in 2022. Some of the reasons given from the statistics include more exposure to risk factors like air pollution, use of tobacco, alcohol, obesity and lots more, requiring the need for people to take caution.

Regrettably, children are not excluded from the scourge of Cancer. Honor Onyebuchukwu who runs a non-governmental organisation that caters for the needs of children with Cancer says the challenges and struggle that parents go through to help their children is better prevented than experienced
World Cancer Day is marked on the 4th of February every year to increase awareness on fundamental Cancer issues. The theme for the 2024 celebration is “Closing the Care Gap”.
