Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has described this year’s Workers’ Day theme, “Reclaiming the Civil Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship,” as apt. He emphasized that it serves as a call to action and a rallying point for advocacy and change.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal who represented the governor at a colourful event, highlighted challenges faced by workers, including exploitation, unemployment, and unjust wages, which hinder financial stability and economic independence.
Labour leaders commended the State government for prompt salary payments, but called for improved subventions to tertiary institutions in the State.
