The Emir of Argungu and deputy chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, says the people of his domain are determined to make the 2026 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival the biggest event of its kind ever.
The monarch gave the assurance when he led a large crowd to pay homage to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Sama’ila Mera was accompanied by traditional title-holders, district and village heads, leaders of various associations and groups,
He added that his people swung into action, preparing the grounds for the massive international event, second to none in sub-Saharan Africa.
He also informed the governor that the emirate allocated a plot, and he signed for the commencement of work on the agricultural hub, to be established by the government, in Argungu.
Governor Idris thanked the Argungu monarch and the people of the emirate for their unwavering support, and loyalty to him and the administration.
Idris assured that staging the 2026 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival has already been approved by his government, and he says, “I will render all the assistance required to make it a huge success.”
