Veterans under the Nigerian Legion in Zamfara State have pledged their continued support to security agencies in the fight against violent extremists groups.

The Chairman of the legion in the state, Aminu Isiaka, said this while leading members on a courtesy visit to Governor Dauda Lawal to officially launch the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem.

Zamfara state has seen a surge in military operations in recent years that has helped to tame the rise in violence by bandits and terrorists

This is why the role of service men has special significance for the state

As the country prepares for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, it provides just the right opportunity for appreciation to the country’s fallen heroes, and this is what Governor Dauda Lawal tells the members of the Nigerian legion

Activities to mark the Remembrance Day include the launch of the emblem and appeal fund, as well as special Jumat prayers and church services.

The Legionnaires say many fallen heroes left behind widows and orphans who rely on public support, hence the appeal for donations to assist their families.

While commending Governor Dauda Lawal for his efforts in improving security and infrastructure, the ex service men reaffirmed their readiness to work with security agencies in addressing the lingering security challenges in the state.

The legionnaires later decorated Governor Dauda Lawal and members of the State Executive Council with the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem.

The week-long programme will run until January 15, 2026.
