Amnesty International in Kogi State says it remains committed to protecting human rights and advocating justice for all.
The organization gave the assurance during the commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day in Lokoja with the theme “Justice for Her,” aimed at raising awareness on the need to protect women’s rights and ensure equality in society.
Gender-based violence remains a major problem and a serious distortion of social norms. There are numerous cases of women who have lost their lives to this violence.
This disturbing trend may have influenced the theme chosen for International Women’s Day 2026.
Speaking on the theme “Justice for Her,” Lamidi Ohinoyi, the representative of Amnesty International in Kogi State, noted that gender-based violence remains a pressing issue requiring urgent attention.
He explained that the organization has been reaching out to grassroots communities to educate people about their rights.
The traditional ruler of Lokongoma community in Lokoja, Angulu Musa, commended Amnesty International for organizing the sensitization program and advised women to remain responsible and nurture their children with good values to help build a better society.
Some of the participants shared their experiences and the challenges facing women in their communities.
The Lokoja event was part of Amnesty International’s ongoing advocacy and community engagement efforts to promote equality, justice, and increased participation of women in leadership and national development.
