The Social Democratic Party (SDP), has taken a swipe at the new opposition coalition formed within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political groups, dismissing the alliance as “birds of a feather,” a gathering of politicians it says share the same old history and habits that have shaped Nigeria’s politics for decades.
According to the SDP, it is exactly the reason why it has refused to join the coalition, insisting it will not align itself with parties or individuals it believes do not represent a truly fresh or transformative political philosophy.
The party maintained that Nigerians have endured too much under the major political blocs. It argues that the SDP offers a break from what it calls “a cycle of recycled leadership,” adding that the pressure it currently faces only confirms its growing relevance among voters.
The Social Democratic Party said it is positioning itself as a strong opposition force, one that will not be intimidated or pushed aside ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Beyond the political back-and-forth, SDP leaders insist the real struggle is not about party supremacy – it is about ordinary Nigerians, millions of whom, they say, are yearning for a new direction and a genuine fresh start.
As the countdown to 2027 draws closer, the party notes that it will continue resisting what it describes as desperate moves to derail its momentum.
For now, leaders of the SDP explained that the paɍy is focus on presenting Nigerians with a credible, people centered alternative, one it believes can spark real and lasting change.
