Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu says the Media has played a vital role in shaping the country’s democracy and development and therefore wants the practitioners to continuously report on issues that will foster peaceful co-existence.
The President who spoke on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the 20th All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) holding in Yenagoa, Bayesa State also noted that his administration has initiated interventions and reforms aimed at cushioning the prevailing economic realities in the country.
President Tinubu who was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while acknowledging the strategic role of the Media in shaping governance, assured of his administration’s commtment in assuaging the sufferings of Nigerians.
The Chief host of the event and Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri described the Media as a beacon of hope for the country’s development.
President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba, called for interventions by governments at all levels to sustain Media production and survival of the industry.

The 3-day Conference, which has the theme, “Economic Growth and Development Strategies in a Resource-rich Country”, is aimed at addressing the challenges in the Media industry, and charting a common front in surmounting them. The Bayelsa conference will also be used to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the institution of the annual All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC).
