No fewer than 23 persons have been reportedly murdered in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in two separate attacks.
The initial attack, which claimed 20 lives, took place in Akpuna Village in the said local government, while the other took place in Adogo Ugbaam, where three people were shot dead in a wake.
Although details of the incident remain sketchy, Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident, identifying the attackers as a militia gang, who invaded the village and shot sporadically.

Anene said, security agencies have been deployed to the affected area since the receipt of the information and engaged the bandits, who were eventually repelled.
According to her, eight corpses have been recovered, while many other injured people have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
