About 24.8 million Nigerians are facing hunger crisis according to new data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation.
The situation is said to affect about twenty six states and will remain unchanged until May 2025

For those who are already poor, the daily reality is hunger crisis even in Nigeria’s farming zones in the north.
Data produced by the United Nations and Nigerian government concludes that 25 million people are affected.
Cadre Harmonize Analysis, is the statistics tool used to reach this conclusion. It examines and ascertains the level of hunger in the country. The results shows that at the moment, 26 states and the federal capital territory are experiencing hunger crisis and this is between March and May 2025.

The report also revealed that over 30 million people may likely experience worse situation between June and August 2025.
At the moment, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Katsina and some parts of Adamawa states are in severe food and malnutrition insecurity while Sokoto, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Kwara some parts of Cross River states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are emerging as hunger hotspots for June and August 2025.
Reactions are building up on the matter, as a visit to some parts of Abuja captured the views of some Nigerians who urged the government to stem the crisis before it turns into emergency situation.
Armed conflict and organized crime are the other drivers of food insecurity.
