No fewer than three people have reportedly lost their lives to a gas explosion of a truck conveying compressed natural gas.
The truck was said to have fallen on a commercial taxi at the Obiri-Ikwerre roundabout flyover intersection in the early hours of Tuesday.
The impact of the gas explosion sent residents living around the Airport/Obiri-ikwerre Junction in Ozuoba, Obio-akpor Local Government Area to panic.
According to an eyewitness account, a commercial taxi driver and commuters plying the Choba-Rumokoro route said the driver of the truck overtook them on top speed when ascending the flyover, but could not negotiate the roundabout with the same velocity, as the truck driver tried to apply the breaks, tipping over and causing the gas cylinders to explode severally.
Personnel of the Federal Firefighters who put off the flame and secured two cylinders that were yet to explode decried the attitude of Nigerians for not calling the firefighters on time.
The impact of the explosion also cut off high-tension power lines within the area.
The scene of the accident has since been cordoned off by the police.
As of the time of filing this report, the bodies trapped under the truck were yet to be removed.
