The police in Zamfara State have confirmed that two civilian guards and a police inspector lost their lives when suspected bandits invaded the Bakura College of Agriculture and Animal Science.
The police also said 15 students and four staff were abducted by the bandits.
A statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Mohammed Shehu, said the bandits were in large number and went to the College at about midnight with the intent to abduct a large number of students and staff, but were heavily confronted by the police tactical operatives, who were immediately put on notice, through distress calls.

It said the police operatives while on extensive bush combing of the surrounding areas, rescued 3 staff, who will be debriefed and medically examined before being reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ayuba Elkana, who visited the college, said the police will do everything humanly possible, to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and staff of the college.
The Commissioner of Police while at the school held an emergency meeting where he assured the school management and the relations of the victims that the police in collaboration with other security agencies, especially the military, is employing various search and rescue strategies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and staff.
The CP further went round the school to assess the existing security arrangement, to enable more reinforcement to be provided against any further invasion.
The Provost of the school commended the resilience of the police operatives for standing their ground despite the abduction of the 15 students and four staff.
