A Minna pit has collapsed in Galadima Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where one person has been confirmed dead, and 30 workers are trapped.
It was learned that the site manager, Ibrahim Ishaku, is among the trapped workers, while six others have been rescued alive.
This is confirmed in a statement by the spokesman of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Husseini.

According to the statement, the accident is said to have been caused by a downpour on June 3, which also made rescue efforts difficult.
The Director General of the Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, said rescue efforts are further hampered by the difficult environment and terrorist activities.
He explained that rescuers had to run for their lives, as the mine pit kept collapsing.
Meanwhile, excavators have been deployed for the rescue operation.
