Thirty-three underage girls have been rescued and one female suspect arrested as operatives of the Anambra State Police Command busted an alleged child-trafficking syndicate in Aguleri.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following a distress report on the abduction of three teenage girls from Ebonyi State, who were later traced to a house on Emma Pigin Road.
Police identified the arrested suspect as Ifeoma Success Anthony, aged 37, while preliminary investigations revealed that the premises is allegedly used for child trafficking and prostitution.
The owner of the building, identified as Mrs. Ngozi Nnanyelugo, is currently at large, as police say efforts are ongoing to arrest her and other accomplices.
Investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the crime, while the Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and called on the public to provide useful information.
