The four local government chairmen in Benue State detained since Monday by the Department of State Services, DSS, were released in compliance with an order of the Federal High Court in Makurdi on Friday.
Veronica Gajir of Ushongo Local Government, Alfred Atera of Katsina-ala, James Oche of Ado and Ubah Mike of Guma Local Government were put in DSS custody after honoring the security agency’s invitation on Monday.
Justice Abdu Dogo on Friday, while ruling on an ex-parte application brought by counsel to the chairmen, Joseph Oche, ordered the DSS to release them on bail or come to the court on Monday to show cause while the four council Chairmen should not be released on bail.

Confirming the release of the chairmen, counsel to the chairmen, Joseph Oche, said the DSS obeyed the court order the moment it was served on them.
The Chairmen, detained without trial, have instituted a fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Makurdi against the DSS.
