32 states in Nigeria have successfully consented to the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, VAPP, while 27 states have signed into law, the Child rights Act with Sokoto being the latest state to domicile the law.
Minister of women affairs, Pauline Tallen who disclosed this at the ministerial press briefing to flag off the 16 days of activism against gender based violence in Abuja noted that as at November 24 2021, over 900 gender violence cases were reported in 5 states.
Members of the international communuty present at the occasion identified the increasing rate of violence against women in the online space as a trend that should be checked.
