About 50 people have been arrested by the COVID-19 Security Taskforce and the Traffic Management Agency for violating the directive on the proper use of facemasks.

The violators who were arrested in Ado-Ekiti include motorists and motorcyclists, as well as other residents.

Some of the violators who claimed ignorance of the directive pleaded for forgiveness.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Retired Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana in an interview explained that the step was aimed at ensuring that Ekiti residents adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines, in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Director-General, Office of Transformation and Strategy, Prof.Bolaji Aluko said, the wellbeing of residents of Ekiti was most paramount to the government and urged the public to take responsibility for their lives, by adhering to the measure.
