The Chairman, National Peace Committee, NPC, Abdusalam Abubakar, says there are about six million illegal weapons in circulation in Nigeria.
Abubakar who is also a former military Head of State made this known on Wednesday at the NPC’s dialogue meeting in abuja with key players across the country on the growing insecurity.
Participants at the session, advised the committee to wade into the involvement of international community in fanning the embers of insecurity in the country and called for Public Private Partnership with Non-governmental organisations on security, civil society groups, Locals and regionals, as well as Industrialists.

Also speaking through virtual channel, another Former military Head of State, Gen.Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) appealed to Nigerians irrespective of political and religious differences to strongly unite in addressing the nation’s challenges.
The committee promised to ensure that all resolutions arrived at will be implemented as wider consultations will continue with key players for an effective results.
The sessions which was held was in the morning and evening were attended by Religious leaders, traditional rulers, Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, Service Chiefs, Chairman, Northern Governor’s Forum, Simon along, industrialists and civil society organizations.
