Eight vigilante operatives have been arrested in Anambra State following a harrowing attack on a female NYSC corps member in Oba, Anambra State.
In a video that has now gone viral, the men, armed with guns are seen brutalising the lady and almost stripping her naked.
The beating was savage and brutal. in the video, which has since gone viral, the eight men are seen assaulting a corps member, now identified as Jennifer Elobor.
The men, said to be operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Oba, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State can be seen carrying out the beating for several minutes.
The, vigilante operatives burst into a corps members’ lodge, accusing the young women of being internet fraudsters—despite presentations of valid NYSC IDs and uniforms. The operatives beat Jennifer, stripped her, and subjected her to humiliating and sexually degrading threats.
The Anambra State Government has responded by sacking the eight operatives involved in the brutal act.
Efforts to provide justice included covering the victim’s medical expenses, replacing damaged personal items, and extending a public apology to both Jennifer and the NYSC.
The management of the NYSC labeled the incident unwarranted and unacceptable, confirming that the matter had been reported to police and that investigations are ongoing.
The Police described the video’s content as “very, very wrong” and pledged thorough enforcement of justice once the victim is medically cleared to proceed with her complaint.

In her reaction, the wife of the Anambra state Governor wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, who weighed in, described the act as dehumanizing and called for measures to be put in place to prevent such reoccurrences, noting that it conflicts with the people-first philosophy of the state.
Several activists and experts have stressed the need for reforms, such as implementing protocols to regulate vigilante operations, enforcing rules of engagement prioritizing dignity and professionalism, and ensuring the safety of civilians in communal security measures.
