The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, says there is a need to give priority to issues relating to gender equality and empowerment if transformation must be achieved globally.
The NBA President, Yakuku Maikya, said this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday to mark the 2023 International women’s day.
Maikyau expressed concerns over the low inclusion of women in Nigerian politics and wondered why out of the 193 candidates who have contested for Presidency since the return to democracy in 1999, only four of them were women and In the just concluded presidential election only one female aspirant appeared on the ballot against 17 male candidates.

The Nigerian Bar association however reaffirmed its commitment to work with relevant bodies to ensure that innovative policies and practices are adopted for the advancement of women in Nigeria.
The NBA president commended all the female members of the legal profession who have done their bit for the advancement of the legal profession in Nigeria and the betterment of the world.
