The Bayelsa state government says it is committed to seeing that all the roads damaged by the 2022 flood were fixed before the rains fully set in as well as ensuring that more communities become accessible by road to bring development closer to the grassroots.
Governor Douye Diri gave the assurance during an on-the-spot appraisal of ongoing rehabilitation work at some of the affected portions of roads due to the impacts of last year’s flood disaster.
Bayelsa state was one of the most affected states in Nigeria by the 2022 flood with lives lost, thousands displaced, roads and other infrastructure damaged.
It is about five months after the sad experience and the current administration in the state is not relenting in its efforts to put the affected roads back to use again.

Governor Douye Diri, represented by his spokesman Ayubaina Duba and the commissioner for works, were taken on a guided tour to see the progress of work at Onuebum, Otouke road, and Opokuma/Sabagria road.
The team also stopped over to assess the level of work at some of the construction sites such as the Igbogene AIT outer ring road, Igbedi road, Amassama road, and the NLC building in Yenagoa.
With the rains here and the predicted flood this year by the Nigerian Hydrological Services, it is hoped that more proactive steps will be taken to avert a recurrence of the magnitude of damage caused by last year’s flood.
