In a bid to discourage school dropouts, early marriages among teenage girls, as well as drug abuses in Bauchi remote Communities, a Non-governmental organization, Rescue Initiative for sustainable development in partnership with Mennonite Economic Development Associates recently organized peer learning session for Mentors and Mentees in fighting the scourge in Bauchi.
According to the non-governmental organization, the scourge remains a growing phenomenon in Northern Nigeria.
The Mentors and Mentees were among the young girls, young Boys, parents and traditional title holders drawn from seven local government areas of Bauchi state.
Suleiman Dasika, the Executive Director Rescue initiative said, Part of their responsibility is to create awareness, through lessons for their peers in their communities on dangers of early marriages, drug abuses, gender bias and school dropout.
Most of them acknowledged that the coming of the Developmental organization to Nigeria has played a vital role in changing the narrative among primitive societies, but issue of sustainability on the part of Government has always become the bottleneck.
The NGO may soon round off its program in the Seven local government, according to them since the program has made a significant impact there’s urgent need for Bauchi Government to continue from where they stopped for the improvement of the well-being of it’s citizens.
