The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu says it has recorded about seven hundred and seventeen cases of rape and sexual violence recorded between January and May, 2020.
Briefing state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, the IGP said that the police and other security agencies as well as non-governmental organisations have been collaborating to find solutions to the problem.
He explained that non-governmental and civil society organisations have also been collaborating with the law enforcement agencies in capacity building, management of victims and procedures for collection of evidence towards successful prosecution.
The IGP noted that apart from partnering with every stakeholder, the police will also partner with the United Nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC) and other civil society organisations.
