The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, South-South Nigeria, Mohammed Dankwara, has resuscitated the ban on the use of unregistered vehicles, spy number plates, covered vehicle number plates, unauthorized dealers’ vehicle number plates and the use of vehicles with only one number plate fixed either at the front or back of the vehicle that are seen driven by car owners in the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor on Monday, the Police Commissioner says it was important for the members of the public to be aware that such acts were illegal as they clearly contravene Section 4 of Road Traffic Acts and Regulations. He added that the provision of this law was consciously and deliberately violated by offenders to carry out criminal activities.
In the face of the negative implications of the acts, the Commissioner of Police has given one week notice to owners of such vehicles to register them, and place the number plates on their vehicles according to standards.

He also called on car owners whose vehicles have been duly registered but flagrantly refused fixing the number plates to desist from the act or face the full wrath of the law.
This was even as he extended the warning to those using government vehicle number plates after 6pm and for them to stop swapping official number plates to other vehicles owned by them. Dankwara however enjoined citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation.
