Unions in Nigeria’s oil industry, PENGASSAN, and NUPENG have reaffirmed their position not to allow any backdoor introduction of privatisation of the country’s refineries.
The unions are demanding full functional use of these refineries without further delay saying they will not succumb to any blackmail in order to fully deregulate the downstream sector based on importation of refined products.
The unions also berated the management of the NNPC for laying off almost one thousand workers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic without paying their entitlements.

In a statement signed by the two unions, the members also reacted to the comment credited to the minister of state for petroleum, Timipre Sylva in which he accused workers of sabotaging government’s effort to reposition the industry.
