The National Assembly Service Commission has queried the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani Omolori , for insurbodination.
Omolori in a press statement on Wednesday rejected the position of the National Assembly Service Commission asking him and 149 others to immediately embark on compulsory retirement.
The Commission considered Omolori’s press statement as an affront and on Thursday replied with a strongly worded query signed by its Executive Chairman, Ahmed Kadi Amshi.
Omolori was by the query asked to explain within 24 hours why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
A copy of the query which was obtained by our reporter read in part: ” The attention of the National Assembly Service Commission was drawn to a Press Release titled: “Retirement age for staff of the National Assembly Service is 40 years of Service or 65 years of Age, whichever comes first” dated 15th July, 2020 and signed by M.A Sani-Omolori, Clerk to the National Assembly.”

The query noted that Omolori is an employee of the National Assembly Service Commission, vide Section 6(1)b of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014 (As amended) and as such lacked the power to dictate to it
“The Clerk to the National Assembly has no authority whatsoever to dictate anything to the Commission. You press release is considered by the Commission as a gross insubordination to a constituted authority”.

“You are, by this letter requested to explain to the Commission within twenty four (24) hours as to why disciplinary action will not be taken against you as per the provision of Section 6(2)b of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014 (As Amended) for this gross insubordination”.
The tenure of Omolori has been a matter of controversy in the National Assembly with arguements raging back and forth that he has satisfied the retirement age condition of service put at 65 years or 35 years in office( whichever comes first).
The National Assembly Service Commission for the first time waded into the matter on Wednesday asking Omolori to quit.
Omolori had immediately replied; blatantly rejecting his sack by the National Assembly Service Commission; arguing strongly that the 8th National Assembly had extended his days in office after it amended the Condition of Service; increasing the retirement age to 40 years or 65 years( whichever comes first).
