FG donates relief materials 48 hours after bandits attacks in Katsina State

Following the bandits’ attacks on 5 communities in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State barely 2 days to the Eid-el Kabir celebration, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has presented relief items to the victims displaced as a result of the attacks.

NEMA Director-General, Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Muhammed (Rtd) who presented the items to the victims at the palace of the District Head of Batsari said it is part of their contribution to the welfare of the people and demonstration of concern over their plight.

The 5 communities attacked were Garin Zaki, Yar’Jiba, Salihawar Dakamna, Kukar Samu and Kurmiyal. While sympathising with the victims of the attack, the Director-General said the presentation of the relief items was on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari through the Office of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Represented by the Assistant Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Godwin Tepikor, the Director-General said the gesture is to show the concern of the Federal Government.

He also used the medium to call on the bandits to repent from their evil ways as the act is portraying the country in bad light before the international community.

At the presentation, the District Head of Batsari Tukur Muazu, while thanking NEMA for the gesture decried the incessant attacks on his people including the recent killing of the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque.

He added that though gradual peace is returning to the area, more needs to be done in terms of security to avert the daily killings and attacks witnessed in their community.

Speaking on behalf of the 5 benefiting communities attacked, community leader of Garin Zaki, Ma’aruf Abdullahi while thanking NEMA promised equitable distribution of the items to all the affected communities house by house.

Items presented include 2 truck loads containing 1,000 bags of 12.5 kg rice; 1,000 bags of 25 kg beans; 1,000 bags of 12.5 kg maize; 50 cartons of Milo; 50 cartons of powdered milk; 50 bags of 50 kg Sugar; 167 cartons of seasoning and 83 cartons of tin tomatoes.

Others are 2,000 pieces of nylon mats, 2,000 pieces of foam mattresses; 100 kegs of 20 litres of vegetable oil; 50 bags of 20 kg salt; 50 cartons of washing detergents, 63 cartons of bath soap, 3,500 pieces of women’s clothing and 2,500 pieces of children’s clothing as well as 5 live cows for the Eid celebration.
