Fuel subsidy: Authorities ready to stop hijack of palliatives in Taraba State

The Taraba State palliative Care Committee says it has put adequate modalities in place to ensure that items meant for distribution to the masses, to alleviate their sufferings as a result of fuel subsidy removal get to targeted beneficiaries, and are not hijacked by hoodlums.

Committee Chairman, Saleh Sa’ad said this during the allocation of grains for distribution to Local Government Areas in the State including government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The Committee was set up by the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas to provide succour to the poor and vulnerable citizens going through economic hardship due to the recent removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government.

One of the many functions of the Committee is the distribution of free food items to citizens in the State. A total of 12,000 bags of grains are to be distributed in the second phase of the outreach to the 16 Local Government Areas and the State Government Ministries, Departments, And Agencies.

Sa’ad said mechanisms have been put in place to avert any security threats or hijacking of the items by hoodlums. This he said will see to the successful delivery of the grains, and ensure that targeted beneficiaries are reached.

Women and youth groups are also represented on the Taraba State Palliatives Care Committee in line with the State Government’s priority for the vulnerable and most active population.

The Committee has held a meeting with Heads Of Local Government Administration from the 16 councils on better mode of distribution, and how to tackle possible challenges.
