ABUJA, December 7 – In an unprecedented move, a group of seasoned experts have advocated the formation of a Digital Broadcast Republic, as a way of revolutionizing governance by leveraging on technology to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy. These experts from various professional backgrounds including Information Technology, Law and Social Science have set aside their differences to champion a common cause – the simplification of government processes and the reduction of bureaucratic red tape. One of the group’s officials said, “Through a digital platform, citizens will now have direct access to legislative, executive, and judicial procedures, eliminating intermediaries and fostering a more direct democracy”.

The initiative builds upon three digital branches of governance:
  • Digital Legislative Assembly (DLA): The DLA functions as the legislative arm of the Digital Broadcast Republic with its focus on policy formation; its amendment and approval. Through a secure digital platform, legislators will collaborate in real-time to discuss and enact laws, making the legislative process more prompt, active and adaptable to the needs of the populace.
  • Digital Executive Council (DEC):The DEC, which is the executive branch, is responsible for implementing policies and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nation. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, the DEC aims to enhance administrative efficiency, reduce red tape, and ensure swift decision- making to address emerging challenges.
  • Digital Judicial Forum (DJF): The DJF is the judicial arm and is tasked with interpreting and upholding the rule of law in the Digital Broadcast Centre. Through an online adjudication system, the DJF aims to deliver swift, fair and impartial judgement, thereby promoting transparency and accountability in the legal system.

In a joint statement announced on Thursday, the group cites the importance of embracing digital solutions to overcome bureaucratic hurdles and improve the efficiency of government functions. They believe that the Digital Broadcast Republic will serve as a model for other nations and institutions seeking to modernize their governance structures.

Institutional Reformer Jonah Ubanmhen, Executive Director of Digital Awareness International, one of the Founders of the Digital Broadcast Republic, stated, “We are in a digital age and we taking decisive steps to modernize governance. Digital Broadcast Republic is not just a technological upgrade but paradigm shift in governance. By embracing digital tools, we aim to create more efficient, transparent and citizen-centric administration, ultimately cutting through unnecessary bureaucracy.”

Professor Chukwuma   Nwankwo, a government expert and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the DAI, commented that, “Government must recognize that excessive bureaucracy is counterproductive. Streamlining processes, embracing technology, and fostering a culture of innovation are crucial steps towards reclaiming lost productivity.”

Dr. Funke Adewale, a leading economist and specialist in public policy and Secretary of DAI, on her part emphasized that, “Governments need to adapt to the fast-paced demands of the 21st century. Unnecessary bureaucracy not only slows down decision-making but also stifles creativity and the ability to embrace innovative solutions in governance.”

Critics, however, express concerns about potential challenges such as data security, misinformation, and the digital literacy among the citizenry. The group assure citizens that effective and efficient measures have been put in place to address these issues, including robust cybersecurity protocols, fact- checking mechanism, and initiatives to bridge the digital gap.

As the digital broadcast republic begins its operations, it marks a historic step toward a more accessible, efficient, and transparent form of governance. The eyes of the world are now on this innovative Governance Structure, as it navigates the challenges of the digital age to redefine the relationship between citizens and their government.
