Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike says the state would have witnessed a bloodbath among some ethnic groups resident in the state had his administration not imposed a curfew on some areas including the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area.

Speaking when he played host to a delegation of the rotary international district 9-1-4-1, governor Wike says no government especially his would deliberately want to impose hardship on its people, saying that the curfew which would soon be reviewed became necessary in order to bring an end to the ugly situation threatening the state.

The governor says the curfew became necessary after the violence unleashed by members of the banners indigenous people of Biafra that had claimed the lives of six soldiers and four policemen was threatening to snowball into an ethnic crisis.

Governor Wike who denied sending soldiers to kill anyone let alone the Igbos, says no governor has the power to deploy soldiers in the country.

The governor is however pointing accusing fingers at those trying to score cheap political points.

Wike added that the fact that he does not have a good relationship with the army does not mean that he should support the killing of innocent soldiers and policemen by blood thirsty IPOB members.

Speaking earlier, governor of the rotary international district 9-1-4-1 Virginia major thanked the rivers state governor for the role he and other governors played in the eradication of polio in the state and the country.
