As Nigeria celebrates the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Niger State chapter of the Nigerian Legion and wives of the fallen heroes have called on the state government to fulfill all promises made to them.
This is not unconnected with the current economic hardship faced by the country.
It was supposed to be a day of remembrance and celebration of the fallen heroes as a result of the contributions the armed forces made in the past to keep the nation united but, the legion and wives of the fallen heroes are making appeals.
At this year’s event held at the permanent cenotaph in Minna, the Niger state capital, the chairman of the Niger state chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Mamuda Ahmed and some widows of the fallen heroes have called on the state government to fulfill all promises made to them.
The State Governor, Umar Bago represented by His deputy, Yakubu Umar assured the legion and the widows that the current administration is ready to make life comfortable for them, especially in terms of social intervention programs.
One after the other, the guests filed out and lay wreaths at the tomb of the fallen heroes including the chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian legion and the representative of widows of the fallen heroes.
The firing of the volley popularly called the gun salute as well as the release of the pigeons to signify peace climaxed the event.
